The San Francisco Chronicle is the largest newspaper in Northern California and the second largest on the West Coast, with a daily circulation of 512,129 and a Sunday circulation of 539,563 (ABC Publisher.s Statement, September 2002).

Highway Three helped the Chronicle to implement a reporting system to provide staff with up to date information on a wide range of business areas including newspaper circulation, distribution, and finances. Our reporting solution gives The Chronicle instant access to mission critical data to help them make timely decisions in a fast changing industry.

Our solution involved the creation of a database access layer to speed up report generation. The reports were written in Active Reports/.NET, and Crystal Reports. The database access was optimized by the use of materialized views and a series of summary snapshots.
